So now we are in Cairo. We arrived at our hotel at about 1am and then we had to get up early for breakfast, which was quite excellent.
We are waiting on time at 7am as arranged and our guide arrived at 8am!
Then we are off to see the "other" pyramids. These were built prior to the big mothers at Giza and were prototype pyramids.
It is hard to get the scale of the size of the pyramids so I have included a common household object to gauge their enormity.
| Step Pyramid of Djoser-first pyramid built about 4 thousand years ago |
| Much larger than a banana |
| Bent pyramid-angle needed to be corrected |
| Epic fail pyramid |
| Red pyramid |
| Give up hope all who enter here |
Our next stop is Memphis; being big Elvis fans we are very excited about seeing Gracelands!
HOWEVER, it turns out that your Egyptian is not a big Elvis fan but they do have a long lost statue of old swivel hips.
| Elvis like you've never seen him |
Then it is off for lunch with our guide, Fadi.
| Duck |
| Stuffed pigeon |
We meet our group for the next 17 days and then we are off for dinner at a local restaurant where we are introduced to the local speciality, kushari-pasta, noodles,,rice and fried onions covered with a spicy tomato sauce,DEELISHUS!!!!!
